Transfer News: Joe Rodon will be allowed to leave Tottenham Hotspur in the summer
According to transfer news on Football Insider (h/t Wales Online), Tottenham Hotspur will let Joe Rodon leave the club in the summer. It is believed that the 24-year-old defender is keen to secure a move away from the North Londoners in a bid for more game time.
The Welsh defender arrived at Spurs from Swansea in the 2020 summer window for a fee in the region of £11million. Rodon has made only eight appearances across all competitions for the Lilywhites this season, with a major chunk of it coming in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
It is understood that Brighton & Hove Albion were interested in the Welsh centre-back in January but did not sanction a move for him. The 24-year-old has struggled to get fruitful minutes under his belt and a move away from Spurs could be on the cards.
Is Ro’done’ at Tottenham Hotspur?
It is fair to say that Antonio Conte has added a fresh sense of vigour and excitement to the club from N-17. That being said, the club saw more outgoings than incomings in the last transfer window with Dele Alli departing on a permanent move to Everton.
Tanguy N’dombele, Giovani Lo Celso, and Bryan Gil went away on loan moves whereas Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur were the only ones to arrive. Rodon could soon be part of the ‘outgoings’ group should we consider the latest developments, and in all honesty, he may not be a big miss for us.
The Italian manager prefers to play with a back three on most occasions with Eric Dier, Cristian Romero, and Ben Davies being the preferred options whenever fit. The likes of Davinson Sánchez and Japhet Tanganga have also suitably filled in from time to time.
This spread of options has seen the Welsh international fall down the pecking order at Hotspur Way. Under such circumstances, a move away from the Lilywhites may be the best possible solution for the club as well as the player.
There is no point in keeping Rodon at the club if he does not feature in the long-term plans of the manager. Hence, Spurs would be wise to seek a substantial fee for him and that money could then be invested in other resources.

At 24, the Welsh defender still has some of his prime years ahead of him and would want to be more involved in first-team action. While the former Swansea man did show great potential in the past several seasons, only the future can predict what is in store for him. Right now, the balance is apparently tipped in favour of him leaving the club from N-17.
