Tottenham Hotspur dealt transfer blow as top Premier League clubs register interest in Konrad Laimer
According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg on Twitter, RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer has caught the attention of several top clubs from the Premier League after impressing in Germany.
Plettenberg’s update will come as a blow to Tottenham Hotspur, who are looking into signing Laimer in the upcoming summer transfer window in order to bolster their midfield and add more quality to the squad (h/t football.london).
The player has been enjoying a fantastic campaign for Leipzig in the Bundesliga as well as the UEFA Europa League, where the German side has made it to the semi-finals of the continental competition.
The 24-year-old has been a regular for the side, and his dazzling displays in the middle of the park could see him move to England, where a lot of top sides seem keen on securing his services at the end of the season.
Colder interest from Man United
Plettenberg revealed that Leipzig want to tie Laimer down to a new contract given that his current deal expires in 2023. However, the player is keen on a move to the PL, where two of the current top five sides have registered an ‘intense‘ interest in the Austrian.
The journalist named Manchester United as one of the sides interested in him, which could spell trouble for Spurs in their hunt to convince Laimer to join them ahead of the new campaign. In good news, however, Plettenberg revealed that the Red Devils’ interest in him is ‘colder’ than the rest.
The former RB Salzburg player could prove to be a useful addition to manager Antonio Conte’s team, who are currently operating with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur as his first-choice midfielders.
Oliver Skipp is out injured, while Harry Winks has barely featured in 2022 for Tottenham. There is evidently a lack of squad depth in midfield, which could haunt them next season, given that the futures of loanees Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele are uncertain.
Laimer’s tireless work rate, ball-winning capabilities, and reading of play are qualities that would certainly benefit Conte’s team next season as they look to step up gears and compete with the rest of the teams for silverware.

He could prove to be an upgrade on some of our current midfield options, but before that, Spurs have to battle a host of Premier League rivals for his signature. With Leipzig also keen on extending his current contract with them, it may be a long-drawn transfer saga to sign Laimer.
Moreover. it becomes important for the club to make sure the wage bill isn’t bloated and there remains a balance between quantity and quality Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele are two central midfielders who were loaned out this term and it remains to be seen what the future holds for them at Spurs beyond this summer.
