Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur express interest in Braga centre-back David Carmo
According to Portuguese outlet A Bola [Print Edition] via Sport Witness (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur have expressed their interest in finalising a transfer for Braga centre-back David Carmo this summer. He has enjoyed quite a solid season so far, having become a key player at the senior level.
Carmo had suffered a major injury last campaign, which kept him sidelined for a large part of the first half of this term. Since returning to action, he has continued from where he left off last season, which seems to have attracted attention from elsewhere, with Tottenham now being keen on signing him.
Managing Director of Football, Fabio Paratici, also has “opened negotiations” with the Portuguese side regarding a potential move in the summer transfer window. That being said, Spurs will need to deal with Borussia Dortmund, who are trying to secure Carmo’s services in the future.
Who is David Carmo?
An out and out central defender, Carmo is also capable of deputising in defensive midfield when needed. That would be a great asset for any team as the flexibility to play in several positions could be helpful in different situations.
The Portuguese defender has featured in 15 matches this season, and he has also garnered nine clean sheets and a goal across all competitions. His return to action has coincided with his team improving defensively, which has helped them to fourth in the league table so far.
Standing 6.3 feet tall, the 22-year-old is a commanding presence in the air, making him a threat during set-pieces while being a powerhouse when defending as well. What makes him stand out is how he can combine his aggressive playstyle with his excellent technical abilities on the ball.
That makes Carmo quite similar to Cristian Romero, which could mean that the former could be a perfect addition on the left-hand side of the defence. After all, Eric Dier could play comfortably as a sweeper shuttling behind two aggressive centre-backs in Romero and the Braguistas ace.

With Dortmund posing competition, it is good to know that Paratici is not wasting any time and has already begun talks over a potential move. Bringing in prospects like Carmo would be the way to go if we want to back Antonio Conte with transfer signings.
We must remain on our toes despite the current situation as Liverpool could potentially enter the race as well. They had tried to sign Carmo in January but failed to complete a move due to the lack of time. As such, it would not be too much of a reach to say that they may reignite their interest moving forward.
