Transfer News: Paulo Dybala chooses Inter Milan move despite Tottenham Hotspur, Man United interest
According to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Daily Mail), Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United target, Paulo Dybala, has chosen to stay in Italy and move to Inter Milan in the summer.
The 28-year-old Argentine superstar has been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent weeks. But apparently, he has chosen to stay in Serie A and is set to sign a four-year deal worth £5m-a-season.
Inter view him as a central figure in Simone Inzaghi’s team, who lost Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea last summer. His current deal at Juventus is set to expire this summer and it seems like he is set to let it run down before making the move to Inter.
It is claimed that Newcastle United and Arsenal also reached out to his agents, but nothing materialised. With Dybala potentially set to move to the Nerazzurri, perhaps Spurs fans can now finally put a lid on their dreams of seeing ‘Lo Joya‘ at N17.
A missed opportunity for Spurs
Signing a player of Dybala’s quality, that too on a potentially free transfer, is an opportunity that doesn’t always come around often. But moving to a different country and trying to adjust to a new culture, weather, language and a different footballing league is no easy task.
Dybala may well have felt more comfortable staying put in Italy. But if he does go on to sign for the defending Serie A champions this summer, then there is no point in obsessing over this missed opportunity for Spurs.
There would be other options in the market and Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici would be wise to shift their focus onto players that can immediately offer depth and quality to this Spurs team.
Harry Kane has never once been challenged for the number 9 spot up front ever since he made that spot his own under Mauricio Pochettino. But that shouldn’t mean the club doesn’t get in another striker to deputise for him on occasions, even though Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn have, at times, been used in that position out of sheer necessity.
The Englishman, at 28, is yet to win a trophy at Spurs and with him not getting any younger with each passing season, his future also remains up in the air. The club did have the likes of Fernando Llorente and Carlos Vinicius Jr in previous seasons as a backup centre-forward.

And perhaps a similar signing could give some respite to Kane especially in months when the fixture list is stacked. Potentially missing out on Dybala isn’t the end of the world, and Spurs must keep looking if they want to provide Conte with a quality forward this summer.
