Transfer News: Aaron Hickey open to leaving Bologna; Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte an admirer
Aaron Hickey is open to leaving Bologna this summer as Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte is a keen admirer of his talents. The starlet is expected to depart this current club at the end of this season, and he has attracted a host of attention for a potential move.
Hickey is set to leave the Italian side after joining them for £1.5million from Hearts back in 2020. He has attracted interest from Brentford, Newcastle United and AC Milan as they look to get their hands on the talented youngster. Two other unknown Premier League sides are also in the fray, with Conte being a fan of his qualities.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, the Scottish star has hinted that he could leave his current club for a fresh challenge elsewhere. However, the defender also conveyed that he could decide to stay depending on the circumstances.
“I might want to challenge myself somewhere else and have a different experience, but who knows the future. I do see a lot of talk. It’s nice to know there’s interest from other clubs, it gives you some confidence. But you just keep your head down and focus on football. It’s been really good here. As I said, who knows I might want to have a new challenge, but I probably wouldn’t mind coming here every day, to be honest.”
Who is Aaron Hickey?
A talented attack-minded defender, the 19-year-old has quickly become a dependable option for his side this season, scoring five goals and assisting once from 33 league appearances. What’s more, he is also flexible enough to play on both sides of the defence as a full-back or a wing-back.
The Serie A left-back’s aggressive playstyle complements his braveness and eagerness to challenge for balls or even throw his body on the line. Moreover, he does not fall off on the technical side of things either, as his dribbling skills and passing qualities help him become a well-rounded full-back.
Even though we have two left wing-backs in our ranks right now, there are doubts regarding them as well. Ryan Sessegnon, for example, is still a question mark when it comes to his fitness, having struggled with injuries since leaving Fulham to move to N17.
Sergio Reguilon, meanwhile, has failed to take the next step to cement his authority as he could have been a great option for us. He has been average going forward and is a decent defender but one can expect the former Real Madrid man to do more on both ends of the pitch at times.
As such, Hickey could be a solid choice indeed, with the youngster being claimed to cost around £20million in transfer fees. That seems fairly priced right now, looking at the demand for his signature. What’s more, his preference to move to England gives us a boost should we register an interest moving forward.

While Conte is an admirer, he is only keeping tabs for now, so it remains to be seen whether he would demand the North London side to target the Scotland international in the future.
Ben Davies would have been a defender that could have otherwise played down that side, but the ex-Swansea City man continues to be used as a third defender by Antonio Conte.
