Eric Dier delivers verdict on Tottenham Hotspur progress under Antonio Conte
Tottenham Hotspur star Eric Dier has provided his thoughts on the progress they have achieved under Antonio Conte so far. His side have considerably improved when looking at their situation when the boss initially joined them back in November.
Perhaps that was best showcased by Tottenham’s recent display against Liverpool as they held their own against one of the best sides in world football. The former could even have won the game on the night had they taken the chances that came their way in a better manner. Then again, that performance indicates the ground they have covered while also giving a hint about what lies ahead.
Speaking in an interview (h/t Football.London), Dier believes Spurs are on the right track when it comes to making improvements in their displays. However, he also thinks that they can do much better if consistency can be brought into their performances in the future.
“Yeah [we’re heading in the right direction], obviously I think it’s game-by-game. We need to show consistency in our performances and finish the season in the best way possible to give us that feeling over the summer and that confidence going into the new season. I think we’re improving every game but I think we can do a lot better.”
What’s Spurs’ potential?
The Englishman is right in the sense that the team is moving in the right way when it comes to having a better future. Even when there have been many slip-ups along the way, it is clear as daylight that we have improved quite a lot, even though Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur were the only additions in January.
One would wonder what Conte could do with a pre-season and more reinforcements in the summer transfer window. Hence, the 28-year-old centre-back could also be correct about the possibility that they can do much better than the current development.
Consistency has been an issue that’s been affecting us under Conte as we fail to maintain a similar level of performance in succession. For example, there was a time when our form was going through a zig-zag motion which highlights this problem.

Another issue is how we failed to showcase the display that we dropped against Manchester City and the Reds in other fixtures. Addressing these problems would go a long way in helping us reach the state that we aspire to be in moving forward.
We are definitely going in the right manner when it comes to achieving that objective but let’s hope that the players can keep pushing for that purpose in the future. Even if the Champions League qualification is no longer in our hands, we can still push to have a great end to the season to build towards the next term.
