Tottenham Hotspur identify Atalanta wing-back Joakim Maehle as summer transfer target
According to Daily Mail Online, Tottenham Hotspur have identified Atalanta wing-back Joakim Maehle as a potential target for this summer transfer window. The defender has performed quite well for his side this season, and he has been on the rise since earning a name for himself in the Euro 2020.
Maehle is widely regarded as one of the best-attacking wing-backs in Serie A at this instant. Antonio Conte has had issues with his options on the left-hand side of the defence. Tottenham are searching the market for solutions, and they have turned their attention towards the Dane.
Spurs could approach the Italian side to facilitate a potential move for the 24-year-old at the end of the current campaign. The defender is believed to be an ideal addition to Conte’s formation, and Managing Director of Football, Fabio Paratici, is set to raid the Italian top-flight once again to back the man in charge.
Maehle to Spurs?
The North Londoners have often run into some troubles regarding their choices in the left wing-back position. After all, Ryan Sessegnon has continued to have problems with his hamstring, which seriously questions his long term fitness.
Sergio Reguilon has suffered injury issues as well, but he even has struggled to build on the promise shown at times. There have been times when Matt Doherty has been forced to fill in down that side because of Reguilon and Sessegnon’s absence.
In such a case, Maehle can be a solid option to add to our ranks, although that would cast doubts on Sessegnon and Reguilon’s future prospects. Ben Davies is also another left-back, albeit being used as a centre-back under Conte. Having four potential left wing-backs may not be wise as the club needs to maintain its good squad composition.
Perhaps, it could mean that we are in line to witness the end of the road for one of our current stars. Whether that will be Reguilon, Davies or Sessegnon remains to be seen if Paratici does target Maehle after this term. Or, all of them could stay on board as well but that is something only time can tell.
Real Madrid, after all, could trigger a buyback clause to bring the Spaniard back to Santiago Bernabeu.

Maehle could be a useful addition as he is equally able to deputise on the opposite end of the pitch. Moreover, he also has a great knack for picking teammates up from crosses in the wide areas, as evidenced by his performances for the Bergamo-based club and Denmark.
Spurs would also be wise to give central defence some attention when it comes to bringing in new faces. A quality backup striker to deputise for, or partner Harry Kane wouldn’t hurt either.
