Tottenham Hotspur lead transfer race for Blackburn Rovers starlet Ashley Phillips amidst Chelsea interest
According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are in the lead of the transfer race for Blackburn Rovers starlet Ashley Phillips amidst interest from Chelsea. He has been quite impressive for his side in the Premier League 2 and has already ‘drawn comparisons’ to Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk.
Phillips is in line to enter the final year of his current contract with Blackburn at the end of this season. As such, he has been linked with a move elsewhere, with Tottenham being the favourites to secure his signature this summer. Chelsea and Manchester United are also in the fray as they look to get their hands on the prodigy.
Spurs are desperate to complete a permanent transfer at the earliest by taking advantage of their lead. They are looking to finalise a move for a fee in the region of £3million, but it remains to be seen whether a deal can be agreed upon or not in the coming months.
Summer arrival?
The Englishman has shown all the signs of being a future superstar in the making based on his current performances. As such, prising away a talent of his quality would be a great piece of business on our part as it could protect our long term interests.
After all, the likes of Eric Dier and Ben Davies are not getting any younger, and we have to plan for the future and find appropriate replacements. Phillips can be that option if we can provide him with a stable ground to continue his development moving forward.
After all, the Blackburn ace has earned rave reviews for his imposing displays, and he could continue to build on that in the future. Hence, it is good to see the North Londoners pushing ahead to complete a transfer as soon as possible because of their advantage.
The interest from the Blues and Man United is also a nod to the 16-year-old’s quality and the promise he has shown at a young age. Even though the current asking price is a bit pricey for someone who has not fully completed his progression, it is still relatively reasonable if he can fulfil that promise in the future.
