Transfer News: Wolves show interest in Tottenham Hotspur target Joao Palhinha
According to the Portuguese outlet Record (h/t Burnley Express), Wolves have expressed their interest in signing Joao Palhinha, who is a transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur. He has enjoyed quite a rise for club and country over the last few years, which has attracted attention from elsewhere.
Wolverhampton Wanderers are keen on securing Palhinha’s services, and they are ready to propose an offer for that reason. This update would be a blow for Tottenham, who are looking to facilitate a potential transfer for the defensive midfielder.
However, it is unknown whether Sporting CP or the Portuguese international would entertain an approach from Bruno Lage’s side in the future. Spurs would need to keep a close eye on the situation and see whether they need to quickly act if there are active plans to sign the midfielder.
Can Spurs sign Palhinha?
The North London club could use an addition in midfield since they only have four options in their ranks at this moment. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp, Rodrigo Bentancur and Harry Winks provide a good depth and quality choices for Antonio Conte to choose from for now.
However, that will change in the next season when we will need to face off on multiple fronts. Hence, it can be argued that another midfield signing should be made to deal with potential injuries or suspensions, even if Conte normally uses two midfielders at once.
Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele could return from their respective loan spells at Villarreal and Olympique Lyonnais this summer, but their future at N17 is more or less done and dusted as of now. After all, Conte did allow them to depart the club in the January transfer window.
As such, Palhinha can be a great option to bolster our midfield, especially if there are plans to challenge for titles. After all, we would need quality options across the ranks to take on some of the best teams in world football regularly in the future.

The Wanderers’ interest would undoubtedly be concerning since they seem to have a knack for acquiring Portuguese prospects with ease. That means Conte’s side should remain alert at all times to prevent getting piped in this transfer race.
It remains to be seen how this situation will turn out in the coming days and whether Lage’s team would make an offer or not for a potential move.
