Paulo Dybala unlikely to join Tottenham Hotspur even with Champions League football
According to The Sun, Paulo Dybala is unlikely to join Tottenham Hotspur even if they could offer him Champions League football in the next season, as ‘it is thought’ that he wouldn’t want to play backup to Harry Kane and Son Heung-min. He is set to leave Juventus in the summer transfer window, which has alerted several major clubs across Europe.
Dybala will become a free agent when his current contract with Juve expires this summer. He was close to extending his deal for another five years but decided to depart after the Bianconeri reduced the terms offered to the forward. Following that, he has attracted interest from Tottenham, Manchester United, Arsenal and Inter Milan for a potential move.
That being said, the Argentine would only move to a club that can offer him CL football for the next term. That leaves out Man United and the Gunners based on the current circumstances, but Spurs have also been dealt a blow as he does not like the idea of playing second fiddle to Kane and Son.
Spurs dealt transfer blow?
Mikel Arteta’s side recently lost 2-0 to Newcastle United in the Premier League, giving us complete control in the race to finish in the top four places. Even a draw in the final game against Norwich City could see us confirm qualification for the next campaign’s CL due to our superior goal difference.
One would have thought that this development will greatly boost our chance of acquiring top quality players for our rebuild, but that seems not to be the case with Dybala. While he does want CL football, the lack of a prominent role at N17 makes us an unattractive prospect as of now.
Kane and Son are crucial to Antonio Conte’s system, and it would not be wise to take them out of the starting lineup. Moreover, Dejan Kulusevski has formed a great partnership with them, making it even more difficult for Dybala to enjoy guaranteed minutes should he join us.
Hence, the fans can understand why Dybala is not even entertained by the idea of teaming up with Conte this summer. That is highlighted even further, looking at how Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn add to the competition at this moment.
The supporters would not want a world-class player like the 28-year-old to move to Old Trafford or The Emirates if Spurs can get their hands on the player. Fortunately, based on the latest developments, Tottenham could also prove to be a roadblock for their direct rivals in this transfer race.

The Red Devils cannot offer CL football, while we could also prevent Arteta’s team from doing the same in the future. That only leaves Inter, which would be an ideal destination if we cannot convince Dybala about a transfer. Let’s wait and see how this situation would develop moving forward.
It’s not like Kane and Son are the only two attackers we play. There is, of course, every chance Dybala can become a part of the trio. But for that, Spurs would have to be on their toes this summer.
