Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte dealt blow as Leicester City view Christian Eriksen as ideal Youri Tielemans replacement
According to The Mirror, Leicester City view Brentford midfielder Christian Eriksen as the ideal replacement for Youri Tielemans, who could leave this summer. This news would come as a blow for Antonio Conte, who is a keen admirer of Eriksen, having managed him at Inter Milan.
Eriksen has certainly proven that he still can play at the top level following his excellent performances for the Bees and Denmark national team. There were doubts over his quality after the cardiac arrest he suffered last summer, but those fears have been laid to rest by the midfielder.
Tottenham could potentially pursue the Danish international, with Conte being a fan of his qualities. As for Leicester, Brendan Rodgers is also in a similar boat as he sees Eriksen as someone who could instantly slot into the void left by Tielemans, who could depart King Power Stadium after this season.
Eriksen could be influential for Spurs
The North London club currently lacks a creative midfielder in their ranks following Giovani Lo Celso’s exit in January. Lo Celso is currently on loan at Villarreal, where he has impressed but it remains to be seen if the Italian manager gives him another chance at N17.
The lack of creativity has been apparent at times as we struggled to create clear cut opportunities or even generate shots on target, which was a poor look for us during our slump. Signing Eriksen would greatly negate that problem, considering how he remains a world-class player even after the unfortunate incident he had suffered.
It is no wonder why Conte admires the 30-year-old, but whether Spurs would target the attacking midfielder or not remains to be seen. The fans would hope that is the case as it would set up an emotional return for a former player who parted ways with us on sour terms.
Perhaps a return under Conte’s tenure could be a perfect opportunity to put that behind, especially as the club is looking to challenge for titles under a top-notch manager. Eriksen can play a key role in that, just as he did during his spell at Inter, where he helped to end Juventus’ dominance in Serie A.
Rodgers’ stance could cause issues for us if the Foxes actively pursue the Bees superstar this summer. Tottenham are forced to wait and see how Tielemans’ situation would develop as that could give them an idea of whether they would target Eriksen or not at the end of this campaign.

But that is not the only issue that Spurs have to deal with, as Thomas Frank’s side is also eager to keep hold of their player moving forward. That makes up for an interesting summer, but whether Conte would get his man or not would need to be seen.
Spurs, of course, can offer Eriksen UCL football- the competition he reached the final of under Mauricio Pochettino in 2019- if they get a point against Norwich City and Arsenal overtake them on goal difference. Leicester can’t say the same.
