Tottenham Hotspur identify Denzel Dumfries as a top summer transfer target
According to The Sun, Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries is among the top targets for Tottenham Hotspur in this summer transfer window. He has been splendid for his side throughout this season, and his displays have been the same for the national team as well.
Tottenham are favourites to qualify for the next campaign’s Champions League at this moment. A win in the final Premier League fixture against Norwich City, who are dead last in the table, would guarantee them the spot in the prestigious European competition.
Dumfries is among the top targets in Spurs’ transfer shortlist as they are eager to bolster their right wing-back position. He is joined by his Inter teammate Alessandro Bastoni as Tottenham are keen to strengthen the centre-back role as well. That is not all, as signing a central midfielder is also in the plans for this summer.
Do Spurs still need Dumfries?
The 26-year-old has excelled for the Nerazzurri this term, having scored five goals and made seven assists from 44 matches across all competitions. Bringing him to N17 to add to our squad would be a great prospect indeed, but whether a move can be finalised or not remains to be seen.
After all, we still do not know if the Dutchman is willing to leave Giuseppe Meazza after this season. At the same time, we have to see whether Simone Inzaghi’s side would be ready to part ways with their defender or not in the summer transfer window.
The North London side are plotting to uplift their quality by bringing in top quality targets in several positions. They are hoping to use the prospect of CL football coupled with Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici’s influence to raid Serie A and get their hands on players like Bastoni and Dumfries.
Signing Dumfries would have been a no-brainer in the past, but there are doubts as to whether we would need a right wing-back anymore. After all, Matt Doherty has proven his worth after overcoming his initial struggles to perform at a top-level under Conte. Unfortunately, he had suffered a season-ending injury, but he is expected to pick up from where he left off before the blow.
Doherty certainly deserves chances after the excellent shift he has put in before enduring the setback. Emerson Royal has been a massive disappointment, especially going forward and with his decision making as he failed to express the quality he had shown during his Real Betis days.

However, Emerson has dropped a series of strong displays of late, even against the likes of Liverpool, which has changed some supporters’ views about him. Perhaps his struggles were simply down to the time it took him to fully adapt to the new league. Hence, one could argue he deserves more chances to make a case for himself.
As such, we are left to wonder how this situation will unravel in the coming weeks ahead of the summer transfer window.
