Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur show interest in Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson
According to 90min via The Hard Tackle (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur have expressed their interest in signing Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson ahead of the summer transfer window. He has enjoyed a solid season with his current club, which has seen him get linked with a move to the Premier League.
Johnson’s impressive performances have piqued Tottenham’s interest as they have entered the transfer race to secure his services. That being said, finalising a move would not be easy as they would face competition from several PL sides who are actively vying to get their hands on the attacking midfielder.
Spurs are handed a boost, though, as Forest could decide to cash in on the Welsh starlet amidst heightened demand for his signature. That being said, it is still unknown whether Johnson himself is willing to entertain offers for a potential departure this summer.
Can Spurs sign Johnson?
The 21-year-old has been widely regarded as one of the best young prospects in the Championship this term and could perhaps be even the best among the lot. Furthermore, he has even replicated those fine displays against top-class opposition during his side’s impressive run in the FA Cup this campaign.
With 19 goals and nine assists to his name, it is no wonder why the Forest ace is being targeted by Antonio Conte’s side for a future move. He has secured that tally from 52 appearances across all competitions this season which is a great return for someone who is only making initial strides in his playing career.
Even if Johnson primarily plays as a number ten or a second striker, he has also been used in various other roles in the attack and midfield. Despite that, he has taken to those changes with flying colours and having someone flexible like him could be of great use to Conte moving forward.
Conte did convey recently that the North Londoners need to have a strong depth for the next term. That can only be achieved by having a good blend of experienced players and young talents who can supplement the regular starters. Hence, Johnson can be useful for us, but whether he would move to N17 or not remains to be seen.

Since other PL sides are also trying their best to facilitate a transfer, we need to remain wary of them at all costs. Fortunately, the Reds could be willing to accept advances from our side, so we should look to take advantage and reach an agreement at the earliest.
That being said, Forest are in line to achieve promotion to the English top-flight for the next campaign. One could argue that they may just decide to keep hold of Johnson to cope with the added challenge of PL for the next season. Whether that will be the case or not would need to be seen.
