Tottenham Hotspur concerned about expenses involved the potential transfer of Raheem Sterling
According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), Tottenham Hotspur are concerned about whether they can meet the required expenses for the potential transfer of Raheem Sterling. His future at Etihad Stadium is up in the air, which has seen them getting linked with a move to sign him this summer.
Sterling is in line to enter the final year of his current contract with Manchester City after this season. The winger will consider his future options during the holiday next month, after which he is set to engage in talks with them regarding this matter. They are unlikely to part ways with him on a free transfer at the end of the next campaign.
As such, the Englishman is either expected to renew his deal or to leave in the summer transfer window. Tottenham will be interested if he is made available, although there are doubts regarding whether they can meet the valuation and the wages required to facilitate a move.
Spurs dealt blow?
This news will be concerning, to say the least, if there are active plans to sign the 27-year-old this summer. That seems to be the case as Antonio Conte is touted to be eager to add Sterling to his ranks if the forward is put on sale in the upcoming transfer window.
It does make sense why the North Londoners are tracking Sterling’s situation at this moment. The attacker’s ability to play anywhere in the attack is quite remarkable as he can perform equally well in all those positions. That was the case recently as well when he came on against Aston Villa to help the Citizens win the Premier League.
Steven Bergwijn’s future is uncertain right now, while Harry Kane does not have anyone to back him up in the centre of the frontline. In such a case, Conte’s side could certainly use more quality signings in the future. Furthermore, we also have to wait and see how Bryan Gil’s situation turns out to be when he returns from his loan spell at Valencia.
Sterling would undoubtedly be a massive reinforcement in such circumstances, although the doubts regarding whether Tottenham can meet the cost would cause concerns among the fans. His current salary is around £300,000-a-week which is very expensive for our wage bill and could even break the structure.

But that is not the only factor that would cause worries as the Man City ace is claimed to be keeping his sights on clubs of higher stature than Spurs. If that is the case, then our efforts would be laid to waste if he does not entertain a move to N17.
That is especially problematic considering how The Sun states that Real Madrid and Barcelona are keeping tabs on the England international’s situation as of now. Both La Liga sides are vastly superior to us at this moment, and they could cause issues if they actively target Sterling moving forward.
