Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte identifies Djed Spence as his primary transfer target
According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has declared Djed Spence as his primary target for the summer transfer window. The former wants to bolster their right wing-back position and views the youngster as someone who is an upgrade over the other options.
Spence has attracted a host of interest from several clubs following his excellent performances on loan at Nottingham Forest. Tottenham have been convinced about his quality, but those displays have attracted attention from clubs like Arsenal and Brentford as well. Bayern Munich are also in the fray, having scouted the defender for a potential move.
Forest are also looking to keep hold of the English prospect, but their chances would depend on their attempt to qualify for next season’s Premier League through the play-off final. That being said, Spurs appears set to win the transfer race ahead of the competition at this moment.
Spence to join Spurs this summer?
There would have been no doubts in the supporters’ minds several months back when it came to the North Londoners’ pursuit of the 21-year-old. Circumstances have changed a lot since then, with Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal raising their level towards the tail end of this campaign.
Despite the improvements, Emerson seems to be in line to be axed this summer as Conte is open to selling him after this term. Some may think that the Brazilian defender should not be sold, having just completed a full season with us. However, if the coach believes his departure is for the best, then Fabio Paratici must stick by the manager and give him what he wants.
Spence is one of the highly-rated prospects in the Championship right now, and adding him to our ranks would be exciting indeed. Furthermore, he would cost only around £15milion in transfer fees, and the expense could perhaps be negated by Emerson’s potential exit.

That being said, we cannot rest our defences just yet as a transfer is yet to be finalised. Even though we seem to be in line to be the victors in this pursuit, it would be best if we remain alert at all times to prevent getting piped by others in this race.
Middlesbrough are ready to sell the Championship starlet to the highest bidder, which could create issues if others make an improved offer in the future. All in all, Paratici must reach an agreement with Boro and Spence at the earliest so that we can end all these uncertainties regarding a potential transfer move.
