Tottenham Hotspur are looking to snatch Arsenal targets Youri Tielemans and Djed Spence

According to Daily Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to hijack the transfer moves of Youri Tielemans and Djed Spence at the expense of North London rivals Arsenal.

Tottenham are believed to be interested in a huge summer overhaul as the management is eyeing to provide Antonio Conte with an improved team. Spurs want to sign a central midfielder, two wing-backs, a backup striker and one centre-back and have already shortlisted some targets for the following window.

Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans and Nottingham Forest’s Djed Spence are two of the targets on their wishlist. However, those two have also come on the radar of Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta looking to strengthen his side after missing out on a top-four finish this season.

The North London team recently revealed that they have received a cash injection of £150m from the club’s major stakeholder and the board has ensured Antonio Conte that majority of the money would be used for summer reinforcements.

Djed Spence is believed to be worth £15m and Spurs might have to pay £25m for Leicester’s Tielemans. Now, it is said that the cash injection allows the North London team to table a lucrative offer that the Gunners might not be able to match, ensuring an advantage in the battle.

Good news for Tottenham?

Spurs have earned Champions League qualification after a tough fight with Arsenal. However, competing for the biggest European trophy and matching Mauricio Pochettino’s 2019 UCL achievements is a whole different gravy. Major signings are required in the summer that can strengthen the depth and dynamics of the squad.

The loan departures of Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso in the January window created a void in midfield which has been partially filled by Rodrigo Bentancur, but the manager could use more steel there.

Tielemans, who scored Leicester’s FA Cup-winning goal last year, is a tried and tested player in the PL. A central midfielder by trade, he is comfortable venturing into opposition defences to help create chances.

The right-back position, meanwhile, is an area where Spurs have had troubles recently. Serge Aurier didn’t have the best of times here and was sold to Villarreal. Matt Doherty has had his ups and downs, while Emerson Royal struggles to impress.

Tielemans and Djed Spence can make a difference upon arrival. As now we have the financial backing, our team can get to the hot seat in the transfer race by proposing a wage offer. On top of that, the Champions League guarantee makes our project much more convincing than that of the Gunners’.

But transfer dealings are rarely that simple. It remains to be seen what approach our board takes in the summer and whether we really do push into the next gear for signing the aforementioned duo.
