Liverpool contemplated making a transfer bid to sign Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-Min
According to Football.London, Liverpool had contemplated making a bid to sign Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-Min in the summer transfer window. He has been sensational for his side, having won the Premier League Golden Boot while arguably enjoying his best season ever this term.
Jurgen Klopp has admired Son’s talents for quite a long time, and his team were assessing the possibility of securing the winger’s services this summer. However, Tottenham’s impressive end to the campaign and their top-four finish in the league prompted them to end their discussion, having realised the added difficulties in a move.
The Reds were planning for the departure of either Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane after this season which caused them to have a look at Son. They were even ready to test Spurs’ stance with a transfer bid, but the CL qualification dented their hopes of a potential move. Recently, it has been claimed that Mane will leave Anfield this summer which further backs their intentions.
No chance!
Even if we had failed to qualify for the next term’s CL, there is no reason to see why proposals from the Merseyside club would have been entertained for the South Korean’s services. He has been a key player for us for quite a long time, and keeping hold of him at all costs would have been the best route to go down if there are plans to achieve glory under Antonio Conte.
In fact, Son’s impressive 2021-22 campaign further highlights how important it is to keep him in the squad to give Conte the right tools to finally end our trophy drought. As such, it would have been shocking to see the North Londoners accept any bids if Klopp’s side had made one in the first place.
In any case, the four-year contract that Son had signed last summer gives us complete control over his future. Furthermore, one could say that the long deal shows the 29-year-old’s intentions to be a part of the club during the peak of his playing career.
That means even if the club had accepted an offer, there would still have been doubts about whether the Asian attacker would have entertained such a move. Fortunately, we are not in any such situation as dealing with them would have taken time and effort, which is not ideal when the club is looking to make moves in the summer transfer window.

Since Conte is set to stay in North London, Daniel Levy and co should be looking to support the boss and bolster the squad rather than weakening it by selling one of the key assets. Moreover, Son’s exit would not have sat well with the manager either, as both of them seem to have made a strong connection with each other.
If Liverpool do change their stance and make an offer in the future, it would be best if Conte’s side firmly rejects all advances regarding a potential move. We should also convey that Son is not for sale, in any case, looking at his importance to this team.
