Tottenham Hotspur target Djed Spence sends future message after Premier League promotion
Tottenham Hotspur target Djed Spence has delivered a message regarding his future after achieving promotion to the Premier League with Nottingham Forest. His admission would be a blow for Antonio Conte’s side as they are plotting to move for him in the summer transfer window.
Spence joined Forest on a season-long loan deal from Middlesbrough for the 2021-22 campaign. He has been sensational at the City Ground and has now helped them jump up to the English top-flight. His performances have attracted a host of attention, with Tottenham being one among them, alongside Arsenal.
Speaking in an interview with Nottinghamshire Live, the English defender expressed his desire to stay with Steven Cooper’s side moving forward. However, he admitted that his future is not up to him right now, which could be down to him being contracted with Boro until 2024.
“[This club] means everything to me. I’ve come here and the fans and gaffer have both taken me in. We lose together and win together. We’re going up together. This means everything to me. I would love to stay, but it’s not in my hands. We’ll see what the future holds.”
Blow for Spurs?
The 21-year-old even responded with a one-word remark- “hopefully”- to a question asking him whether he would be with the Reds in the next term. That would undoubtedly deal a tough blow for Spurs indeed if his loan club want to keep hold of the right-back past this summer.
That seems to be on the cards as Sky Sports are now claiming that the PL bound side is set to make a transfer bid to permanently sign the Boro defender. That could be problematic considering how Spence is also keen to remain with them now that they have been promoted to England’s first division.
It is also claimed that Brentford are also in the mix with Conte’s side and the Bees making the most recent contacts regarding a potential move. Perhaps, the only option for us at this point is to outbid Forest and reach an agreement with Neil Warnock’s side.
Then again, we have to wait and see if Spence himself would entertain such a move as a transfer cannot be finalised without agreeing to personal terms. Nottinghamshire Live and Sky Sports also state that he is likely to leave Riverside Stadium amidst interest from Bayern Munich as well.

As such, we must focus our attention on facilitating a transfer for Spence since he is likely to leave this summer itself. Things could be difficult after considering his words and Forest’s intentions to sign him. However, with Champions League football being an added factor, perhaps we can convince him to move to N17.
Furthermore, Fabrizio Romano has revealed how Bayern Munchen pulled out of the transfer race after signing Noussair Mazraoui from Ajax recently. That should make things a bit easier for us, despite the main threat from Forest.
