Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur held internal discussions over Christian Eriksen reunion
According to Alasdair Gold, the club’s correspondent for Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur held internal discussions among themselves regarding a reunion with Christian Eriksen in the summer transfer window. The midfielder has been plying his trade with Brentford following the horrific incident he suffered last summer.
Eriksen is out of contract this summer, which has made him an attractive proposition indeed. There were doubts over his capabilities after suffering a cardiac arrest the previous summer, but that has changed following his excellent performances for club and country since January.
Now, Tottenham are looking to re-sign the Dane ahead of the next season. They have discussed a potential transfer inside the club but could face some issues if they actively target him this summer. He is expected to get proposals from elsewhere which could be problematic for our interests.
Reunion on the cards?
Following Dele Alli’s exit in January, we do not have any attacking midfielder in our ranks, which has caused us trouble on several occasions. Even if Alli remained at the club, he has underperformed for quite a long term and is more of a second striker rather than a pure number ten.
Eriksen, meanwhile, is a proper creative outlet, and his ability to pick out a pass is among the best in world football. There have been times when we struggled to break down opposing defences and even create opportunities. That led to situations when there were no shots on targets throughout entire games at times.
Eriksen’s signing could solve that issue with his immense quality, but whether an agreement can be reached or not remains to be seen. His availability on a free transfer is a great opportunity indeed for us to keep our transfer budget intact and use that to bolster other positions.
However, since the Bees star is thought to receive interest from elsewhere, we must be wary at all costs if there are active plans to sign Eriksen this summer. That seems to be a possibility as Spurs are looking to reinforce their midfield with a signing ahead of the next term.

However, that is not the only obstacle in our pathway, as Thomas Frank’s side could keep hold of the Danish midfielder due to the emotional connection between them. After all, they are the ones who gave him a chance to prove himself when no one else did following last summer’s incident.
However, the same can be said for a return to North London due to our former affiliation with the Brentford ace. Furthermore, Antonio Conte has also managed him in the past, which could lend us a hand as well. Moreover, Champions League football is another factor that could make us an attractive proposition. But whether that will play a role in this pursuit or not remains to be seen.
