Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte could use a ‘good relationship’ to lure Giorgi Mamardashvili
According to Marca (h/t the Mirror), Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a shock transfer move for Valencia shot-stopper Giorgi Mamardashvili amid Manchester United interest.
The 21-year-old Georgian has provided a top-notch spell during the second half of the recent La Liga campaign. The Georgian international has helped his team keep 10 clean sheets in 24 appearances in the season, helping them to a decent finish in the league table.
Manchester United are also interested in signing Mamardashvili for the backup keeper spot as academy graduate Dean Henderson is eyeing amove away amid a lack of game time. However, now it is believed that Tottenham have joined the Red Devils in the transfer race and are seeking to trump them to the signing.
Tottenham engineered a seamless loan move for Bryan Gil to Valencia in the January transfer window and now the club believes they owe a return favour from the Spanish outfit. Antonio Conte is eyeing using that good relationship in order to convince them to sell Mamardashvili.
Should Tottenham sign Mamardashvili?
Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has been a top-notch performer and a loyal servant to the club for several years. However, considering the Frenchman is 35-years-old, he will nopt eba round for long to keep bailing Spurs out of trouble.
On top of that, Tottenham doesn’t have a lot of quality backup options for goalkeeper spots at the moment. Even though Lloris played the majority of the games, he reserve keeper Pierluigi Gollini had to step in when required. The Italian failed to provide the expected output and will now return to Atalanta when his loan spell expires..
Considering all the aforementioned reasons, Tottenham might be better off with a quality goalkeeper reinforcement. Mamardashvili has been tried and tested in the La Liga and possesses the potential to become a dependable player in the future.
