Tottenham star Christian Eriksen targeting Champions League football amidst Brentford contract negotiations
According to Sky Sports, Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Christian Eriksen is currently in negotiations with Brentford regarding a new contract.
The Dane suffered a heart issue at last summer’s Euros that more or less saw his career at Inter Milan come to an end. He returned to action earlier this year with Brentford and went on to resurrect his reputation in the English top flight.
It has also attracted attention from his former side Tottenham Hotspur, who are in the midst of a rebuild under Antonio Conte. The Italian tactician is well aware of Eriksen’s abilities and has addressed the prospect of him returning to N-17 somewhere down the line.
Eriksen appears to have taken heed of Conte’s comments and is settled in London. He is seeking to experience Champions League football once again and has a decision to make this summer.
His contract at Brentford expires in the summer and the Bees have already offered him a new deal. The 30-year-old is yet to commit to it, meaning there is a window where Tottenham can make a move should they choose to.
While Eriksen has stood out at Brentford, he might struggle to gain the same pre-eminence he held at the Lane. Rodrigo Bentancur has been a revelation in midfield since arriving from Juventus in January and there is little reason at the moment for him to make way for Eriksen.
The Dane arriving at Tottenham for a second spell, that too for free will certainly add strength in depth to our roster. More so he is also familiar with Harry Kane and Son Heung-min and can get the best out of them.
Whether Eriksen will don the famous white of Tottenham come the 2022/23 football season remains to be seen. If he does, not many Spurs fans would be against it given how well he has fared on his return to England.

Eriksen’s potential return is nostalgic, to say the least. We have fond memories of his time at the Lane but will also do well to move on. The past despite its promise has not been kind to us and we are better off focusing on the future.
