Tottenham Hotspur to test Aston Villa’s resolve by launching a bid for John McGinn.
According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to make a move for Aston Villa star John McGinn in the upcoming summer transfer window.
McGinn has been instrumental for Villa since joining from Hibernian in the summer of 2018. He has played an integral role in Villa’s renaissance in the Championship, en route to Premier League promotion in his very first season.
Since his arrival, the Scot has featured in 144 of the Claret and Blues’ 163 league games across the two divisions – 100 of them in the Premier League. During that time he has also enhanced his reputation as one of the finest midfielders in England.
Villa would be under no pressure to sell though since McGinn has a contract that runs for three more years until 2025. The 27-year-old plays a vital role in Steven Gerrard’s first XI and is a respected senior player at Bodymoor Heath.
Gerrard has a good opinion of the Scotsman and he could have a huge role to play in Villa’s rebuild. Offering solidity in the middle of the pitch, McGinn could pave the way for Philippe Coutinho to work his magic further up the field.
Can Tottenham break Aston Villa’s resolve?
The Villains are unlikely to entertain any offers for their vice-captain this summer unless it is a sizeable one which is too good to turn down.
An energetic presence in the middle of the pitch, the Scot will add athleticism and dynamism to the Spurs midfield. Well versed with the English gamer, he could prove to be a shrewd addition to Antonio Conte’s roster.

The Telegraph reported earlier that Antonio Conte has six players on his summer shortlist. Besides McGinn, Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse is also being monitored.
Both the McGinn and Ward-Prowse deals, should they go through, will also help Spurs balance their obligatory home-grown quota. An emotional return for Brentford midfielder and ex-Spurs fan-favourite Christian Eriksen is also being considered at Hotspur Way.
