Tottenham Hotspur enter race to sign Manchester City target Gabriel Jesus amidst Arsenal interest
According to Italian news outlet TuttoJuve (h/t the Mirror), Tottenham Hotspur have offered £40million for Manchester City’s current number 9, Gabriel Jesus.
The 25-year-old has a year left on his contract at the Etihad but could be set to leave following the arrivals of superstar striker Erling Haaland and Argentine talentṣ Julian Alvarez.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta would know all about Jesus, who he has worked with before during his stint as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City.
The former Palmeiras striker has the ability to play anywhere in a front three and his immense workrate and clever movement off the ball make him a tantalising prospect for Antonio Conte’s setup at Spurs.
Does Gabriel Jesus make sense for Spurs?
The Lilywhites also have the benefit of Champions League football to swing things in their favour. However, they will have to explain to Jesus how he fits into their system on a weekly basis, since the Brazilian would prefer a guarantee on playing time before signing any deal.
With Tottenham set to make Dejan Kulusevski’s loan deal permanent, Conte will have the Swede, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min to choose from in a stacked attacking line. Adding Jesus to the ranks sounds exciting on paper, but is bound to make at least one player unhappy.
This is where Arsenal can capitalise since they have no strikers available after having bid farewell to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang earlier this year and more recently, Alexandre Lacazette.
For those very reasons, Spurs would have to be wary of Arsenal’s pursuit of the Brazilian – the player’s familiarity with Arteta and the guarantee of assured play-time every week.

Spurs will need to offer big money and bigger promises if they are desperate to sign their man. They have the benefit of Champions League football, so it remains to be seen if they can use that as leverage along with a decent offer to sway Jesus towards joining Spurs.
