Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur in the hunt for Leicester City duo Youri Tielemans and James Maddison

According to Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold, Tottenham Hotspur could attempt to sign Leicester City stars Youri Tielemans and James Maddison in the following summer transfer window.

Spurs seem to be looking for a new central midfielder and could look to Leicester City for reinforcements in the summer transfer window. The East Midlands club are on the back of a poor season where they finished 8th.

Tottenham are assessing the possibilities to sign the Foxes’ midfielder Youri Tielemans whose current contract is set to expire in June 2023, and he is unlikely to sign a new contract with Leicester, implying that he could leave soon.

Youri Tielemans might not sign an extension after his contract ends.

On the other hand, Leicester star James Maddison, who has been a long-term Tottenham target, is in the final two years of his contract, so it might be a critical moment for the Spurs to clinch a deal.

A realistic chance?

After struggling to regain his best form at AS Monaco following his departure from childhood club Anderlecht, Tielemans has effectively restarted his promising career at Leicester. His passing ability and composure in possession is something Brendan Rodgers values in his starting XI.

His long-range winner against Chelsea in the 2021 FA Cup final has inscribed his name in the club’s history, but he may have outgrown the Midlands outfit now. They are far removed from UEFA Champions League football, after all.

Conte may appreciate the control that Tielemans would bring to the Tottenham engine room as he assesses his choices in the forthcoming transfer window, thereby providing a useful dimension while in possession.

Conte has almost always used either a 3-5-2 or a 3-4-3 system since taking over at Tottenham in November last year. And hence, he hasn’t really used a number 10- a position where Madison excels.

But tactics can always change and the Englishman could always take up another position on the field if he were to ever join the Lilywhites with Conte in charge.

However, it seems improbable that the English international would be a major help to our team. At the end of the day, Leicester would certainly know the player’s worth and our board would be wise to save that money- which we can then spend to strengthen the team elsewhere.
