Transfer News: AC Milan end interest in Tottenham Hotspur target Sven Botman
According to the Italian TV channel Sky Italia (h/t The Sun), AC Milan have ended their interest in signing Lille star Sven Botman, who is a target for Tottenham Hotspur. This update would undoubtedly be great news for those at the English club as it increases their chance of acquiring his services.
Botman has earned quite a name for himself after helping Lille win the Ligue 1 title in the 2020-21 season. He has attracted a host of attention at this moment, with Tottenham being one of the interested parties. Milan were also in the mix, but they have pulled out of the race after learning his asking price.
The French side has slapped a price tag of around £47million for the Dutchman’s signature, which prompted the Serie A champions to drop their pursuit. Spurs are looking to bolster their defensive ranks and have identified Botman as one of their potential options for this summer.
Boost for Spurs?
The Italian giants’ current stance certainly puts us into contention in our attempt to finalise a move for the 22-year-old. After all, one could say that we may have some kind of edge over the other competitors who are pursuing Botman as of now.
Newcastle United and Manchester United have also added the Ligue 1 superstar to their shortlist as they too are in search of defensive reinforcements. That being said, the prospect of playing in the Champions League is a major attraction for most of the top superstars in world football.
Perhaps the Dutch centre-back could also fall into that category, although that does not mean we are leading the race right now. Newcastle, in particular, seem to be a major obstacle as they are actively targeting him following their failed attempt to facilitate a move last January.
The Magpies are trying their hardest to get their hands on Botman and have even apparently told the Ligue 1 club that they are willing to put a huge offer on the table. If that is the case, Fabio Paratici cannot afford to sit idly by any longer, considering how we could use some defensive additions ahead of the next campaign.
Joe Rodon, for example, is expected to leave after struggling to earn meaningful minutes under Antonio Conte. Davinson Sanchez could also be sold if the North Londoners receive an attractive proposal for him. Japhet Tanganga could join them as well if he fails to impress Conte in the upcoming pre-season.

The Spurs trio’s potential exits call for the need to increase our depth in that position, especially when Conte utilises a three-at-the-back system. So let’s hope that we can complete a move for Botman and add him to our squad at the earliest.
