Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur battle Bayern Munich to sign Torino star Gleison Bremer

According to the Italian newspaper La Stampa [Print Edition] via Milan News.it (h/t The Sun), Tottenham Hotspur will battle it out with Bayern Munich to sign Torino star Gleison Bremer on a potential transfer this summer. He was immense for his side last season and had played a major role in making their defence among the best in Serie A during that period.

Bremer is currently contracted at the Serie A club until 2024, but that has not stopped him from getting linked with a move elsewhere. Tottenham have already expressed their interest in signing him, and now Bayern Munchen have also turned their gaze towards him.

It is touted that the Brazilian could be subjected to a bidding war in the summer transfer window. Bremer is currently valued in the region of £34million, so it remains to be seen if the Italian side or the defender himself would entertain any advances of a potential transfer ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Bremer, ideal centre-back signing?

The 25-year-old has been more than exceptional over the past year or so, which is evident from his performances during that period. That is even backed by his addition to the Serie A team of the season for the 2021-22 campaign. He was even recognised as the Best Defender, further highlighting that very factor.

Bremer has shown splendid leadership skills and the ability to keep his teammates on their toes by leading from the back. The South American has also performed more than well enough in both three-at-the-back and four-man defensive set-ups. That makes him a perfect addition to our backline under the current circumstances.

After all, while Antonio Conte has solidified our backline since taking over the managerial role, considerable improvements must still be made moving forward. Cristian Romero, Eric Dier and Ben Davies have been a formidable partnership for us, although perhaps Davies could be replaced with someone who is more natural in that role.

Bremer has proven his worth in that position and could be a smart option to have in the three-man backline, significantly improving our squad depth in the process. That being said, Bayern’s entry cannot be taken lightly, as they are one of the European powerhouses and would cause major issues for us as a result.

That is especially the case after Julian Nagelsmann’s side lost Niklas Sule to Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer. However, they are not the only interested party that the North London side must worry about, as Chelsea are also pursuing Bremer this summer.

The Blues want Bremer in their squad and will ramp up their efforts to provide Thomas Tuchel with defensive reinforcements. Bremer had a great season on an individual level at Torino, but they were far off from competing for European places.

At his age, if the Brazilian has ambitions of winning the biggest trophies in world football, perhaps he would be wise to leave his current team for a bigger club.
