Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur monitoring Southampton star James Ward-Prowse
According to Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur are currently keeping tabs on the situation of Southampton star James Ward-Prowse for a potential transfer move in the future. He has been an important cog in the midfield for his side over the past few seasons and would undoubtedly be a great addition to our squad.
Tottenham are searching the market for midfield additions in the summer transfer window. That is because Harry Winks is expected to leave them ahead of the next campaign paving the need to replace him to maintain their squad depth. Ward-Prowse has been identified as a potential target and could actively be pursued as a result.
That being said, there is an expectation that Ward-Prowse could be costly if Spurs want to finalise a move for him this summer. They had an agreement to sign him three years ago but opted against it in the end, and it is believed that his valuation has increased threefold since then.
Ward-Prowse, possible summer signing?
There is no doubt that the England international has been one of the best in his positions in the Premier League for quite some time. That is what makes it puzzling how the North London side decided not to complete his signing when they could have done it all those years ago.
Perhaps, we could be provided with a second shot at securing the 27-year-old’s services, going by this update. Then again, we are left in the dark about whether the Saints or Ward-Prowse himself would have plans to part ways with each other in the summer transfer window.
The PL ace’s set-piece deliveries and free-kick technique have arguably been the best in England in recent campaigns, and securing his signature would be a massive boost to an area that has been a weakness for us. While Winks has done a solid job, Ward-Prowse would be a major improvement on him as of now.
Ward-Prowse’s knack for getting in on the goal involvements is another factor that makes him stand out from our current crop of midfielders. His eleven goals and eight assists last season from 42 matches across all competitions make him an attractive proposition indeed.

Now that we have qualified for the Champions League, it is quite important to reinforce with the quality signings, and the Saints superstar would perfectly suit our needs for that reason. He would also bring hefty competition into the midfield, which would force others to do their best moving forward.
However, we have to wait and see whether Antonio Conte would demand the board to pursue Ward-Prowse or not this summer. After all, it is always best to sign players who meet Conte’s needs, so let’s wait and see whether the midfielder falls into that category or not.
