Arsenal are favourites to facilitate a transfer move for Tottenham Hotspur target Gabriel Jesus

According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), Arsenal are favourites to secure the signature of Manchester City star Gabriel Jesus, who is also a transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur. He has already made up his mind to leave Etihad in search of regular minutes with the 2022 Qatar World Cup being on the horizon.

Jesus will see his current contract with Man City expire at the end of the next season. However, he is in line to depart this summer, but that has not stopped them from asking for a massive price tag. They are confident about earning £50million in cash for his services despite having just one year left in his deal this summer.

Tottenham have already expressed their interest in the Brazilian, but they have fallen short with the Gunners being ahead of them at this point. Negotiations are progressing right now, with Mikel Arteta being eager to add Jesus to his squad, having named him a key target to bolster his frontline.

Lost cause for Spurs?

If Jesus has plans to become a regular presence in the starting lineup at his next club, then we may not stand a chance to sign him over our bitter rivals. They lost Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona last January, while Alexandre Lacazette joined Olympique Lyonnais on a free transfer recently.

While Eddie Nketiah has just renewed his contract, Jesus can still get the nod for the starting spot due to his experience. That will not be the case at N17, with Harry Kane being a major roadblock in his pathway. It is unlikely that the Citizens ace will be able to break it into both wings either for us.

After all, Son Heung-Min and Dejan Kulusevski have formed a strong partnership with Kane under Antonio Conte, so restructuring the frontline when it has done well for us would not be sensible. Jesus moving to the Emirates would undoubtedly be a massive blow for us as our direct rivals would be boosted by his arrival.

Chelsea and Real Madrid have also been offered Jesus, but it looks like he is on the way to reuniting with Arteta this summer. That is unfortunate as it would have been in our best interest if the 25-year-old left for Spain if he would not have joined us this summer.

The South American could have greatly benefited us as his versatility to play anywhere in the attack while being equally effective would be perfect for us under the current circumstances. Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura could be heading out the door this summer, making Jesus a perfect addition indeed.

Their potential departures could have been negated by Jesus’s signing, with him also being an option to provide backup to Kane due to the lack of a proper centre-forward in our ranks. But unless something drastic happens, it looks like the Brazilian international is on the way to Arsenal this summer.
