Transfer News: Christian Eriksen could be on his way to Manchester United rather than Tottenham this summer
According to football.london, Tottenham Hotspur have not followed up their interest to sign Christian Eriksen this summer. Fabio Paratici, Spurs’ managing director of football, has been in contact with Eriksen’s camp since last summer; but it seems a reunion is unlikely.
Christian Eriksen joined Brentford in January this year, following his cardiac arrest during the Euro 2020, which rendered him unavailable for Inter Milan. However, since signing for Brentford, he helped them turn their misfortunes around and showed everyone what he still has to offer.
The 30-year-old has been linked to many clubs especially Tottenham and Manchester United, with a reunion in North London looking plausible. However, that does not appear to be the case anymore.
The Danish international made a total of 11 appearances for the Bees and contributed by scoring one goal and notching up four assists. It was however his ability to play as a deep-lying playmaker that caught the attention of everyone.
A reunion unlikely?
Antonio Conte has been backed by the Tottenham board and his signing of Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma and Fraser Forster shows that Tottenham mean business this summer. They are also linked with players such as Evan Ndicka, Ilay Zabarnyi, and Josko Gvardiol.
With the arrival of Bissouma, it is now very unlikely that Tottenham will sign Eriksen. Although he is a fan favourite, it seems that the Dane will likely head to United.
The Spurs boss had previously expressed his desire to team up with the Dane again, after their successful title charge at Inter Milan together. But this is now looking very unlikely.
A versatile midfielder, he can play in the central midfield and left-midfield apart from his natural position of attacking midfield. Although Conte could have used his versatility and experience, it seems his chapter at Tottenham is as good as done.
