Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur contact Leeds United over a potential Raphinha move
According to Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur have made direct contact with Leeds United regarding a potential move for Raphinha this summer. He has already made up his mind to leave Elland Road ahead of the next season, with his side willing to part ways with him as well.
The Brazilian international still has two years left in his current contract, which has given Leeds enough leeway to demand around £60million in transfer fees. Tottenham are in the fray to get hold of him and have met with them to discuss the possibility of a potential transfer.
However, Spurs will face competition from Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona for the 25-year-old’s signature. That being said, it is believed that he has already agreed to terms with Barca, although their dire financial situation has prevented them from reaching common ground with the Whites.
Raphinha to Spurs, possible?
We have a good blend of quality options in the wide areas, but things could take a turn for the worse looking at the current situation. Steven Bergwijn has already made it clear that he wants to leave N17 this summer at all costs, having failed to earn regular game time under Antonio Conte.
Lucas Moura’s future is clouded by uncertainty, which means that he could join Bergwijn as well ahead of the upcoming campaign. After all, Moura has emerged to become a potential option for Everton as Frank Lampard looks to strengthen his squad.
In such a case, Raphinha, who is versatile enough to play on both wings, could certainly help to solve the lack of depth and quality if Bergwijn and Moura depart this summer. The former would also bring healthy competition into our ranks which could certainly be beneficial indeed.
However, the Catalans could scupper our plans if they can muster enough funds to meet the asking price set by Jesse Marsch’s side. Supposedly, Raphinha will not make an early decision as he wants to give enough time to the Blaugrana club to fix their financial troubles.

As such, we must remain open on the matter and jump on the opportunity if one arrives in our way. The Gunners, in particular, seem to be another major competitor as they are thought to be in line to make a proposal for the South American.
Mikel Arteta’s side has also held meetings with the Yorkshire-based club, which should make us wary of their interest. Marsch’s team is expecting an offer to arrive from our bitter rivals, so we cannot trail behind too much if there are plans to add Raphinha to our squad.
