Tottenham Hotspur dealt a transfer blow as Ajax are set to slap huge price tag on Antony
According to Dutch journalist Mike Verweij of De Telegraaf via Footy Accumulators on Twitter (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt with a blow in their pursuit of Antony as Ajax have slapped a huge price tag for his services. The Dutch side are looking to ward off interest by taking this stance, having already lost several key players this summer.
Tottenham have been monitoring the Brazilian’s situation in the Netherlands, as they have shown an interest in signing him. However, they face competition from Manchester United, who are desperate to reunite Antony with Erik ten Hag this summer. Supposedly, our direct rivals have started informal discussions with the winger to facilitate a move.
However, the hopes of both English sides would be dampened by this latest update as the Dutch club are not interested in seeing their squad clawed upon even further. Hence, Ajax would only accept irrefutable offers for Antony, having set up a valuation of £68million for his signature.
Spurs must end their interest
The 22-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best young prospects in his position, having enjoyed a breakthrough season with Ajax in the previous campaign. That being said, his current valuation is certainly unreasonable, so it would be best to end our interest in him as soon as possible.
Hence, if Spurs are planning to bring in someone on the frontline, then they must prepare a shortlist of alternative targets at the earliest. We must assess the market and find those players who are achievable, unlike in this case with the South American.
Furthermore, one could say that losing out on the Eredivisie winger would not be an immediate blow for us, considering how we are covered in that position. Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Moura form a good set of options on the right-wing, so the fans are not worried for the time being.
Perhaps we could try and target Antony in the future, with Moura strongly hinting recently that he may leave on a free transfer next summer. If that is the case, then perhaps we can pursue the Ajax man after the upcoming season, and the Eredivisie side may potentially change their decision in the future.

However, Man United’s interest would be concerning as they are desperate for additions on the right-hand side of the attack. After all, Jadon Sancho was moved to the left-wing, while Mason Greenwood has been out of contention for quite some time.
Hence, the Red Devils are desperate in their attempt to sign Antony, but whether they would meet this outrageous valuation or not would only be known in due time.
