Transfer news: Steven Bergwijn looks set to leave Tottenham Hotspur this season
According to Daily Mail, Steven Bergwijn could leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer, with Ajax Amsterdam tipped to be a potential destination.
The Dutchman had been tipped to leave the club in January, but no move could be materialised. Now it seems that the player may get his wish.
Spurs are set to demand more than £20 million for the former PSV man. Bergwijn joined Spurs in January 2020 and looks to be on his way to his home country as he tries to secure a place in the Dutch National Team for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in November.
Ajax are keen on the Dutchman, after having agreed to sell striker Sebastien Haller to Borussia Dortmund. Having also lost David Neres to Benfica, the Dutch giants are in need of attacking reinforcements.
A good deal for all
Bergwijn has struggled to earn a first-team place under Antonio Conte, having made only 25 League appearances, mostly from the bench. And it seems that this will not change this season as the Italian coach revamps the entire squad.
His departure could free up space both in the squad and wage bill for the potential arrival of Raphinha or Richarlison or maybe both. Conte is believed to be preparing a squad so that he can challenge for some silverware next season.
And it now looks like both the player and club are set to part ways. It would be a good move for both parties; as the player would get his desired playing time at his new club, while Spurs could potentially reinvest the money to bring in reinforcements.

Conte will wish that he was right to have left the player out of his squad choice, while the player would love to prove the Italian wrong by banging in goals for his new club. It remains to be seen who is proven right or perhaps both were never wrong, to begin with.
