Tottenham Hotspur in transfer tussle with Arsenal to sign Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix
According to Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur are currently rivalling Arsenal to secure the signature of Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix on a potential transfer move this summer. He has been subjected to a shock exit from Wanda Metropolitano despite the massive £114million investment made on him back in 2019.
Felix is no longer an untouchable at Atletico as Diego Simeone has put him on the market ahead of the next season. The attacker has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League after clubs were made aware of his availability in this summer transfer window.
Tottenham have expressed their interest in signing Felix, but they are now joined by the Gunners in this pursuit as well. Paris Saint-Germain are also in the mix to facilitate a potential move after his agent made contact with them, according to BarcaTimes via Football.London.
Felix to Spurs?
The 22-year-old failed to hit the heights he was expected to reach when he initially made a name for himself at Benfica. His attacking nous and guile were something that resulted in heavy praises when he showcased those qualities during his splendid performances.
However, things have not gone well for the La Liga ace, as his move to Atleti has seen his progress stagnate since then. Perhaps that could be down to the defensive setup that Simeone follows, which does not offer attackers the same freedom as it may do in a possession-based system.
As such, a move to N17 could perhaps help Felix kickstart his development once again, looking at how Antonio Conte has utilised the front three comprising of Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min and Dejan Kulusevski. Conte may just assist Felix in this case just as he did with Kulusevksi following an unimpressive time with Juventus.
It is quite surprising to see Felix being made available on the market when he recorded his best-ever campaign for the Spanish giants. He scored ten goals and assisted six times from 34 matches across all competitions before he ran into an unfortunate injury at the tail end of that season.

With Steven Bergwijn closing in on a permanent move to Ajax and Kane lacking a backup option in our team, Felix could prove to be a great acquisition indeed. However, PSG and Mikel Arteta’s side would pose a considerable threat in this transfer race, so we need to be ready to overthrow them with full force.
However, the biggest concern would probably be Felix’s valuation, with his current contract lasting until 2026. Simeone’s side did make a huge investment in him, so it is difficult to see them accept a massive loss with a long deal at hand. So let’s wait and see what stance would we take in the coming weeks.
