Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur expected not to battle Manchester United for Ajax star Antony
According to Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur are expected not to battle it out with Manchester United for the signature of Ajax star Antony on a potential transfer move. He is on the back of a breakthrough season in the Netherlands, which has also earned him a spot in the senior national team setup.
Fabrizio Romano has recently revealed that the Brazilian’s entourage have demanded the Eredivisie side to entertain offers for his services even if the asking price is huge. That is despite Antony having three years left in his current contract in Amsterdam, as it could suggest that he wants to depart this summer.
Tottenham and Man United have been linked with a potential move for Antony over the past few weeks. However, it is now claimed that the former are not in line to pursue the winger in this summer transfer window. That could pave the way for the Red Devils as they have expressed a strong interest in signing him.
Understandable from Spurs!
The 22-year-old has established himself as a highly rated attacker in the previous campaign, having scored 12 goals and ten assists from 32 matches across all competitions. He has not reached his full potential just yet, so prising him away at the earliest could be a great piece of business done by any club.
However, that seems not to be on our plans going by this update, but this stance does make sense after all. We only brought in Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus last January, and he is of similar age to Antony. In fact, Antonio Conte has helped Kulusevski get back on track to achieve the promise he had shown at Parma.
We also have Lucas Moura in our squad, who has a contract until 2023, which can be extended for another year. As such, we are more than covered for the time being in the right-wing position, so spending money on Antony is not wise when there are other roles like centre-back, for example, that must be bolstered.
That being said, it would be best if the Manchester club would fail to get their hands on Antony as it would benefit us in the process. However, they have ramped up their efforts, having contacted the Dutch side to discuss the possibility of a potential transfer this summer.

Fortunately, Romano has stated that there are other interested parties in the fray, so the fans would hope that they are from the continent. Then again, nothing is guaranteed just yet, with Erik ten Hag pressuring to get hold of Antony ahead of the next season.
Ten Hag has prior connections with Antony, but whether that will play a part in this pursuit or not remains to be seen. Chelsea have now joined the race as well, so the chances of the attacker moving to the Premier League are increasing, which is a bit of concern for us.
