Fabrizio Romano: Christian Eriksen to make final decision on his future but Tottenham seemingly not an option
Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano has said that Brentford midfielder Christian Eriksen will soon announce the decision on his future club but Tottenham Hotspur are currently focused on other targets.
This would mean a reunion of the player and club is very unlikely to happen. Eriksen is currently contracted to Brentford which expires on June 30.
Eriksen had infamously suffered a cardiac arrest during Euro 2020 which rendered him unplayable for his then club Inter Milan. He was signed by Brentford in January 2022 and showed everyone what he still has to offer.
The Danish international played a pivotal role to help the Bees finish in the 13th position last season. He made a total of 11 appearances for them scoring 1 and assisting 4 in the process. However, it was his ability to play as a deep lying midfielder that caught the eye of everyone.
A reunion looking unlikely
During his time at Spurs, the Dane made 305 appearances for the club in all competitions scoring 69 goals and assisting 90 times. Spurs were one of the teams linked with his signature this summer.
Antonio Conte could have reunited with Eriksen, the two being together at Inter Milan. He was a key man in Conte’s squad and both won the Scudetto at Inter together. But the above report has cast doubt on the reunion to happen.
Spurs have signed midfielder Yves Bissouma from Brighton and Hove Albion this summer. Conte also has the options of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur in the midfield department.
It would be unwise to sign the Dane, as his age and wages would be a problem for Tottenham. Although he would help in increasing the competition at the club, his return could be marred with less playing time, something which Eriksen may not like.

Where Eriksen plays next season is yet to be seen. While missing out on Eriksen won’t be a big blow for us, the money we would have saved on a free transfer for an extra pair of legs in midfield wouldn’t have been bad business at all.
