Transfer news: Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig
According to journalist Nabil Djellit (h/t Football.London) that Tottenham Hotspur have enquired about RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol, as they look to strengthen their defence this summer.
Gvardiol had a dream debut season for Leipzig last season and has gained the interest of several clubs from across Europe. He joined the German outfit last season from Dinamo Zagreb and was tasked with filling in the void left by Ibrahima Konate.
The Croatian centre-back helped Domenico Tedesco’s side finish fourth in the Bundesliga, while winning the German Cup and reaching the semi-final of the Europa League. He has a contract until 2026 with Leipzig.
Gvardiol made a total of 45 appearances for Die Roten Bullen in all competitions, scoring 2 goals and assisting three. At his age, those are really impressive numbers, showing just how trusted he is by the manager.
The fourth signing?
Antonio Conte has been busy in the market this summer having already signed Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma and Fraser Forster. Apart from this, Spurs are also linked with Raphinha and Djed Spence.
Spurs have been meaning to sign a centre-back to increase competition at the back. They were interested in Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni, but their pursuit came to an end last week. Now it seems Spurs have found an alternative in the Croatian centre-back.
His signature will help to increase the competition in the back, with currently Cristian Romero, Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier being the preferred option at the back. Japhet Tanganga and Joe Rodon are the available backup options but are not preferred by the Italian.
Conte would love to have such a player in his squad. The player has amassed huge playing experience at such a young age and has huge potential in him. He would be a sensible signing and Tottenham could regret missing out on him.
