Fabrizio Romano: Tottenham Hotspur bid for Lautaro Martinez ‘wide of mark’

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham haven’t made a bid for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez. Talks of Spurs putting in a bid for the Argentinian striker are “wide of the mark”.

The Italian journalist also goes on to say that the North London club are working on a deal for Richarlison with Everton and nothing in regards to Martinez is happening.

The striker’s agent has also come out and said that “it makes no sense” for the 24-year-old to leave the Serie A side as his client is “loved by the fans”, and the Argentine is happy with his current situation in Italy.

Martinez wouldn’t fit in Conte’s system at Spurs

The Italian manager knows all about Martinez, as the Argentinian helped Conte to the Serie A title in the 2020/21 campaign. The Milan-based side were led to their first scudetto in over a decade.

At Tottenham though, the Italian manager has found a formula with his front three. As Harry Kane and Son Heung-min lead the line alongside Dejan Kulusevski, Conte has been able to bring the best out of all three.

Kane initially found it difficult at the beginning of the season in front of goal during the 2021/22 season, but the Englishman soon rediscovered his best. Son was our best player last season, sharing the Premier League Golden Boot. Kulsevski has had an immediate impact since joining from Juventus in January.

If Spurs were to sign Lautaro, it would be difficult to envision him playing out of position. Of course, our vice-captain could play in a deeper position, but that’d mean a change in shape. It would also mean a change in our South Korean star’s role.
