Chelsea tried to upstage Tottenham Hotspur in Richarlison transfer pursuit

Richarlison is close to completing a move to Tottenham, but according to Fabrizio Romano (h/t Metro), Chelsea made a last-ditch attempt to hijack the deal.

The Brazilian’s medical is set to take place as the North London side offered upwards of £50 million to Everton for the 25-year-old. The Blues have been looking to strengthen their side and in an attempt to do that were ready to swoop in at the last minute to persuade the striker.

Richarlison a statement of intent for Spurs

Tottenham have pulled the triggers on multiple transfers this year as the North London side have geared up to back Antonio Conte in a bid for silverware after a 14-year trophy drought.

Richarlison is the latest addition in the long line of signings that the Italian manager has wanted at the club. Fans would say that the Lilywhites are going against tradition and breaking the reputation of failing to act decisively in the transfer market.

The fact that we’ve been able to fend off Chelsea and other clubs to pip the Brazilians signing shows the work Fabio Paratici has done and the influence of Antonio Conte in the game.

Richarlison is set for a new challenge at Spurs as the 25-year-old fights for a place in the North London side. A constant in the Toffees lineup in his four years in Merseyside, the Brazilian now comes to a team with players like Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

Conte was given his wish of Dejan Kulusevski in January and Ivan Perisic has signed for the club this summer. With other attacking options at the Italian manager’s disposal, it will be interesting to see how Richarlison is used within the squad.

What the 25-year-old brings to the forward line is hunger and aggression, which can be essential at certain points of a game. The Brazilian striker will also shoulder some of the burdens our vice-captain has been carrying all alone for years as the lone striker at the club.

Richarlison’s signing will not just give fans hope; it will also provide the team with a certain quality we have lacked in the squad.

The Brazilian has established himself in the Premier League over the years with Watford and Everton and Spurs will hope for the same fate at the N17.
