Tottenham Hotspur striker Dane Scarlett gives his views after winning the Under-19 Euros with England
Under-23 Tottenham Hotspur striker Dean Scarlett recently won the Under-19 Euros with England. He was part of the squad as the Young Lions lifted the trophy in Slovakia on Friday, following a 3-1 victory against Israel.
Speaking to Tottenham Hotspur’s official channel, the young man has said that they always believed they were going to win the trophy, long before the tournament had begun. And he was not wrong.
“Honestly, we all had that belief going into the tournament that we were capable of going all the way and thankfully we did that.”
Scarlett was not the only Spurs player to contribute to the win, with his club teammate Alfie Devine also being part of the Young Lions squad. Both the players contributed goals and assists to help their country storm through the tournament.
The 18-year-old had a tournament to remember as he played four of the five games for his country, scoring 2 and assisting 1 in the process.
The first silverware of many?
He had been in phenomenal form during the Young Lions Euro Championship Qualifiers. The Spurs man played five of the six games, scoring 6 goals and helping his country qualify for the tournament. Something which they would eventually go on to win.
The young man was proud of the way the competition turned and was more proud of having helped his country lift the silverware.
“The competition as a whole went really well for us – the team built a real togetherness throughout the qualifying rounds and we were able to show our quality in the tournament itself. On a personal note, I’m proud to put on the England shirt and contribute to the team.”
Not only this, but he was also full of praise for his club teammate Alfie, who scored one goal and provided two assists in the tournament.
“Alfie was top-class every minute that he played. He also contributed to the team with his assists and an amazing goal in the first game, so we are both very pleased.”
This tournament comes after the last season, where the Spurs academy product made a total of 7 appearances for the senior team. And now it looks like he could play more, given his form during the Euros win.
A centre-forward by trade, he has a very bright future ahead of him. Maybe not next season, but in a few years, we could see him potentially leading the line for Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham have signed Richarlison to play either alongside Harry Kane or as a backup for him. Given the status of the Brazilian, he is unlikely to want the role of a benchwarmer so Scarlett would perhaps have to be patient for their chance.
It is wise to remember Kane came from the club’s academy itself. He is now a priceless player for our team and if our young striker can become half that player, we would have some talent on our hands.
