Pete O’Rourke tips Josko Gvardiol to make a move amidst Tottenham Hotspur admiration
As per Pete O’Rourke via GiveMeSport (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur admire RB Leipzig centre-back Josko Gvardiol, but a move is unlikely this summer.
O’Rourke believes Tottenham have the 20-year-old high up on their list of targets but will find it difficult to pry him away from the German side, who are asking for a lot of money for the Croatian.
“He fits the bill; he’s among their top targets. The problem for Tottenham is that RB Leipzig do not want to sell the Croatia international, and they are trying to price him out of a move.”
The journalist also believes that the transfer would be hard to pull off for the North London side this season. He has high hopes for Gvardiol’s future and believes the centre-back is someone with huge potential.
“So, this one might just be too expensive for Tottenham this season, but he’s a left-sided centre-back who’s young with huge potential to become a big, big player in the future as well.”
As of now, Tottenham have made four major signings this summer, but none have been in the centre-back spot. There is talk of Clement Lenglet moving on loan, but it hasn’t been finalised yet.
The left centre-back spot is one that needs attention. Ben Davies played the majority of the last season under Antonio Conte in that position. The left-back provided adequate cover, but fans felt a natural left-footed centre-back could’ve done better.
The North London side barely made it to the top four last campaign; defensively, a lot was left to be desired. Eric Dier was the only constant in the backline as Cristian Romero and Davinson Sanchez suffered from injuries.
Therefore, a solid defender is high up on Tottenham’s list but getting someone has proved to be complicated. Spurs have worked fast on the signings the Italian manager has wanted this summer. But centre-back is a position that hasn’t been reinforced yet.
While the team does require a centre-back, fans will make keeping Romero fit their first priority. The Argentinian has proven to be a difference-maker in the backline when he’s been fit.

If signing Gvardiol proves to be an arduous task, instead of wasting time negotiating with Leipzig, Spurs should look at other targets for now to strengthen the squad. It’s important that going into the next season the team is adequately prepared to challenge for titles.
