Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur linked with Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn once again
According to Football.London, talks surrounding Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn being linked with a potential move to Tottenham Hotspur ‘have resurfaced’ in the summer transfer window.
In his 36 appearances for Steven Gerrard’s team last season, the central midfielder has recorded three goals and four assists. The Scottish international is versatile and can play as a defensive midfielder or even out wide.
The Lilywhites would sign a strong player in McGinn. The Aston Villa star has repeatedly shown his value at Villa Park and could now be ready to take the next big step in his career.
Spurs have plenty of alternatives for the midfield and are well-stocked in the area. Despite this, having a player with McGinn’s skills could assist raise the midfield’s level of quality and add competition for the players.
But because McGinn has a contract that runs for three more years until 2025, Villa would not be in a rush to offload him. The 27-year-old is an important member of Steven Gerrard’s starting lineup and a well-liked senior player for the Lions fans.
The Scotsman is well-trusted by Gerrard and has been getting significant chances. McGinn can provide space for Philippe Coutinho to perform his magic further up the field by providing stability in the middle of the field.
After letting Jack Grealish leave last summer for Manchester City, letting another talented Villa hero in McGinn would also send out the wrong message about the Villans and their ambitions.
Tottenham will require an extensive squad with more depth if they desire to go head-on with the top clubs in the Premier League and the Champions League. From that perspective, McGinn could be a great signing considering the way he has been performing lately.
