Tottenham Hotspur are in advanced negotiations with Middlesbrough for Djed Spence
According to Sky Sports’s @MichaelBridge_ via Football Daily on Twitter (h/t Football.London) Tottenham Hotspur and Middlesbrough are still in negotiations over the transfer of Djed Spence.
Spence seems to have given up on continuing with Boro and has his sights set on a move to the English top division for the upcoming season. As a result, he was linked with a transfer to Tottenham, with his manager Chris Wilder claiming the right-back wanted out.
Spurs’ interest has been confirmed by Wilder as well, although they don’t appear to have made any progress toward completing a deal for Spence so far. If we expect to sign the English defender and bolster the club in the process, that is not good news.
Now it is believed that Tottenham are still locked in talks with Middlesbrough but haven’t reached an agreement on the £15million fee demanded by the Championship side. Whether this will change in the coming weeks remains to be seen.
Spence, who was on loan at Nottingham Forest the previous year, assisted the team in advancing through the Championship Play-Offs to the Premier League. He contributed significantly to the team, making 42 Championship appearances while scoring two goals and providing assists on five more.
The outstanding wing-back has been a target for Spurs for some time, so this news will be appreciated by the team’s supporters. Right wing-backs for the club are Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal at the moment.
Conte might be aiming to add Spence to boost the depth and competition for the position after both the players on our roster failed to produce performances at the required level. When necessary, Spence can also play in the right midfield, adding extra versatility to our roster.
Conte will be happy if this transfer is achieved because he appears keen to restructure the Spurs team this offseason and challenge for trophies. And right now, it appears that the Lilywhites are doing their bit in negotiation.

It now remains to be seen what happens. Tottenham can provide the young defender with Champions League nights in addition to the Premier League experience he desires. The Lilywhites will be well advised to seal the deal in the coming weeks so that the youngster can get a pre-season under his wings.
