Tottenham Hotspur have an eye on 23-year-old Palmeiras defender Joaquin Piquerez
Tottenham Hotspur are one of the multiple clubs in the chase for Palmeiras defender Joaquin Piquerez. The Uruguayan defender had an impressive time on the pitch in Brazil last season.
Piquerez is a left-back who has also experienced playing in a centre-back role, among other positions. The 23-year-old is admired by Spurs as an option to bolster the squad.
As per Goal France (h/t Express), other top sides in Europe, including Marseille, supposedly have an eye on the Uruguayan as well. Piquerez’s performances in Brazil’s first tier have compelled clubs to consider him.
Tottenham are currently going out in the market and giving Antonio Conte what he needs. The North London side have had an impressive summer transfer window after qualifying for the Champions League.
Summer additions at the club have seen the attack, midfield and defence being strengthened. Going into the next season with a long schedule, depth in the squad is one of the key factors.
Conte had a set backline in the previous campaign he trusted. It was clearly evident that Cristian Romero, Eric Dier and Ben Davies were the chosen ones for the Italian in his back three when they were available.
Fans will feel we already have a left-back capable of playing in the centre-back position in Davies. So if we look at it from that point of view, it won’t make sense to go after Piquerez.
The wing-back position on the left is also an area Conte has options for.
