Chelsea could help Tottenham Hotspur offload Sergio Reguilon

According to Inside Spurs on Twitter (h/t Football.London), Chelsea’s Jules Kounde pursuit would provide Sevilla with enough funds to concentrate on Tottenham Hotspur full-back Sergio Reguilon

The 25-year-old rose through the academy ranks of Real Madrid but was unable to secure a consistent spot in their starting lineup. Reguilon was ultimately loaned out to Sevilla in the 2019–20 season before being sold to Spurs.

Although the Spanish wingback made a terrific impression during his time with the North Londoners, management changes and persistent injury problems have somewhat slowed down his development at Spurs. The Spaniard has made only 16 appearances under Antonio Conte, scoring two goals and providing one assist for the Lilywhites in all competitions.

It seems Sevilla might end the Spaniard’s misery very soon as they are getting close to raising the funds they need for his signing. It is now believed that Chelsea are growing stronger in their pursuit of Jules Kounde and an agreement might be reached for around €50m + bonuses

After completing the transfer, the Spanish team might be able to sign Reguilon from Tottenham and that would end the Spaniard’s partnership with our team.

Under Jose Mourinho and Nuno Espirito Santo, the 25-year-old was a reliable presence, but his Spurs career has seen ups and downs in terms of his performances. Since the Italian manager took over, Ryan Sessegnon has had an abrupt comeback.

Despite this, we do not have many options, and the former Fulham starlet’s struggles with consistency and injury are much too regular to be acceptable. Thus, the news of Reguilon’s departure could be dangerous for us.

Although the former Inter Milan manager is guiding Tottenham in a more promising direction right now, having outstanding wing-backs is a crucial component of his technical expertise. If the Spanish wing-back leaves, his already constrained options might become even more constrained.

Signing Perisic was a smart move from our board as it would give some breathing space to the Italian manager. However, it’s only a short-term fix and the club has to find a long-term solution for the problem in the market.
