Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur battle Liverpool for Inter Milan star Nicolo Barella

According to Italian outlet Il Messaggero (h/t Liverpool Echo), Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella is now on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur.

Liverpool have also been linked with the 25-year-old midfielder this summer. Barella is a player that Antonio Conte knows well.

He coached him during his time at Inter Milan and in the years since he joined the Italian giants from Cagliari, he has become one of the most exciting midfielders in Italian football.

Spurs have already seen the arrival of Yves Bissouma this summer. However, Giovani Lo Celso, Harry Winks, and Tanguy Ndombele could leave N17 this summer.

Lo Celso and Ndombele, in fact, were loaned out during the second half of last season. This only shows the lack of faith Conte has in the duo.

What should Spurs do?

Barella knows Conte’s system well, having played under him in Italy. Our boss usually plays with two central midfielders who control the tempo of the game in the middle of the park and help out in defence.

The Italian international can play that role well. It remains to be seen if Spurs lodge a bid for him this summer with the Reds also keen on signing him.

Jurgen Klopp can do with an addition in midfield himself. But Tottenham fans would undoubtedly want to see Barella play for their team instead.

Apart from him, Conte is seemingly interested in defender Milan Skriniar as well. If given the choice, Spurs would perhaps be wiser to sign a quality defender – which the Slovakian international is.

We already have some solid players in midfield and can perhaps see the next season out with our current options.
