Agent gives the latest scoop on Tottenham Hotspur target Jordan Veretout
Speaking to TMW Radio (h/t football.london), Vincenzo Morabito, the agent of AS Roma star Jordan Veretout has opened up on his client’s chances of moving to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
The 29-year-old is a veteran of the game and has been a consistent performer over the last few years. Veretout was a part of the squad that won the UEFA Conference League last season and still has several years left in his career.
The Frenchman is primarily a central midfielder who can be deployed in an attacking or defensive role. A good passer who is capable of finding his teammates from deep, he has the ability to function as a playmaker of sorts to connect the rearguard to the offence.
Tottenham were linked with Veretout earlier this year but that trail has gone cold of late. If the player’s agent is to be believed, a move to the Lane will not take place this summer.
Morabito admits that the Frenchman’s skillset is a poor fit for Antonio Conte’s system, making it unlikely that the Italian will move to sign him. The Italian is a stickler for tactics and there is little reason to believe that he will move for Veretout for the sake of it.
“For me, he is not a player for Conte at Tottenham, who have already spent a lot.”
Tottenham’s interest in Veretout back in January made sense given where we were in the Premier League standings. However, since then, the Lilywhites have brought in Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma.
The return of Oliver Skipp from injury gives Conte another option in the middle of the park alongside Danish international Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Veretout is a decent player but it is fair to say that Spurs have outgrown him.

Tottenham have invested well in the summer transfer window and are poised to fulfil their potential under Conte. We are better off targeting players at the top of the football pyramids and can definitely do better than Veretout.
