Injury News: Tottenham Hotspur handed Ben Davies boost for AS Roma clash
According to Football.London, Ben Davies is back in training ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s friendly against AS Roma on Saturday.
The Lilywhites have had a decent pre-season tour this month in terms of results, winning against K-League XI and Rangers while drawing against Sevilla. Davies travelled with Spurs for the opening game against K-League XI.
However, he didn’t play any part in that 6-3 win. He did feature against Sevilla in the 1-1 draw but was taken off prematurely with an ankle issue.
Both he and Oliver Skipp missed our 2-1 win against Rangers at Ibrox. Davies is back in training and that would come as a timely boost for those at Tottenham.
Davies back in training
The Welshman, who swapped Swansea City for Spurs eight years ago, recently extended his contract until 2025. It comes on the back of a superb individual season where he played a massive part in Conte’s backline.
While there is always the chance of fireworks when you face a Jose Mourinho side, the friendly against the Romans on Saturday doesn’t have a lot riding on it.
It’s best for Spurs to preserve their best players for the season opener against Southampton at home. Davies, in that regard, must be rested at all costs given the vital role he has played down the left-hand side of our three-man backline.
Clement Lenglet has been signed this season on a loan deal but Davies could retain his position, while the Frenchman can then be eased in as the weeks go by. It remains to be seen how Davies is used by Conte.
