Tottenham Hotspur star Joe Rodon closing in on a loan move to Rennes
According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, talented Tottenham Hotspur youngster Joe Rodon is closing in on a loan move to French club Rennes which is expected to include a buy option for €20m.
Widely regarded as one of the most talented young players in Spurs, Rodon is expected to be a huge player for the club in the future. The 24-year-old has not been able to get regular game time here though.
The Welshman joined Spurs from Swansea City in 2020 on the back of an impressive season with the Championship club. The talented centre-back managed to play just ten games for Spurs last season.
One thing that makes Rodon special is his ability to play in multiple defensive positions. He can play as a centre-back which is his primary position but he can also do a good job at right-back.
Rodon is already a mainstay in the Welsh national team and finds himself a huge part of the team. He has played 27 times for his national team till now and will want to add to those caps in the near future.
The Qatar World cup is a few months away and Rodon will know that he needs regular game time to establish himself as one of the first-choice players for the Welsh national team and this loan move makes sense.
At 24, this is the time for Rodon to develop into the kind of player he is widely expected to be. If he can get regular game time in Rennes and realise his true potential, it will turn out to be a very good loan move for him.
The fact that Spurs have included a buy option in the deal casts doubts over his long-term future at Spurs. However, it is too early to read into it and it remains to be seen how this move pans out.
