Antonio Conte reveals why Tottenham left four players including Sergio Reguilon behind for Israel trip
Tottenham Hotspur take on AS Roma in a pre-season friendly tomorrow in Haifa, Israel. The game kicks off at 18:15 GMT and serves as the last game before Spurs’ Premier League season starts.
This match could be crucial for many players to make their last impressions on Antonio Conte. Youngsters would want to prove they are worthy of playing with the first team while senior players on the fringe of the starting XI would want to make a case to be picked more regularly.
Four players, however, have been left behind at Hotspur Way as they seek more clarity on their futures. Harry Winks, Sergio Reguilon, Tanguy Ndombele, and Giovani Lo Celso will play no part in Spurs’ friendly against I Giallorossi.
The quartet has been linked with moves away from N17 this summer. And now, Conte has explained why the club has decided not to take these players with them to Haifa (h/t Football.London).
“I think that we spoke with the club and the players are informed about the plans for the next season. We are talking about really good players and the club and I, we think they deserve to play games regularly. For this reason, these players are not here.”
This is perhaps Conte’s diplomatic way of saying that these players are not in his plans and that if they stay, he will not hand them regular starts. Spurs are well stacked in these positions as well.
At left-back, Ivan Perisic is expected to man the flanks with Ryan Sessegnon as his understudy. It remains to be seen if the four of them can find new clubs.
Three of the four aforementioned names are those of central midfielders. Conte has brought in Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma to N17 this year while Oliver Skipp continues to be an option in that position.

If they can’t, fans would still not mind them staying at Spurs considering the depth we would need if we want to compete on four fronts next season.
