Transfer News: Joe Rodon in France to complete loan move from Tottenham Hotspur to Rennes
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon will be in France this weekend to complete his medical in order to sign for Stade Rennais.
The French side are apparently close to sealing a loan move for the 24-year-old centre-back, with a deal already in place with Spurs. The loan move also includes a €20 million buy option for Rennes.
They will also cover his salary for the upcoming season. Rodon was already left out from Spurs’ tour to Israel this weekend, where they take on Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma.
This move would come at an important time for the young. At 24, he is now at an age where regular minutes will matter for his development, something he may not get at Spurs under Antonio Conte.
The Italian manager hardly used him last season, and Rodon ended the season with just 86 minutes of top-flight action under his belt. He can expect to be a starter in Bruno Genesio’s side.
They have already lost centre-backs Jeremy Gelin and Nayef Aguerd this summer, with the latter moving to Spurs’ London rivals, West Ham United. The FIFA World Cup in Qatar takes place later this year as well.
Rob Page would consider Rodon as an important part of this team. However, regular minutes at the club level are important for the player to be in top condition when the tournament takes place later this year.

The deal is yet to be announced by the club but it seems that things are in place for it to be completed soon if Romano is to be believed. Tottenham have themselves signed a defender this summer in Clement Lenglet, albeit on a loan deal from Barcelona.
